If you are a TESL Ontario member interested in writing one or more posts for the blog, consider becoming a guest blogger or an occasional blogger. The differences in these roles are outlined below.
Guest Blogger – Minimum 1-year commitment
TESL Ontario continuously accepts applications for guest bloggers to join us in expanding this supportive online community that shares knowledge, resources, lesson plan ideas, teaching techniques, and technology finds with the TESL community.
What’s Involved?
Writers are required to
- be an active TESL Ontario member,
- have previous experience with blogging or other publication writing (preferred but not necessary)
- commit to submitting one blog post every 4 – 6 weeks,
- commit to a one-year volunteer term,
- work with blog administrators during the editing process to finalize the post for publication, and
- respond to comments on blog posts.
What Are the Writing Guidelines?
Blog posts will
- be between 350 – 700 words in length,
- follow the APA guidelines,
- be written in the first person,
- have names of students and colleagues changed for privacy reasons, and
- be reviewed by blog administrators prior to posting and are subject to minor editing to conform with the publication standards.
What’s in It for Me?
- Receive credit for professional development that will cover the entire PD requirement for one year.
- Enhance your writing experience.
- Have published work exposure – posts promoted on all TESL Ontario social media networks.
- Be able to share your knowledge and expertise with the language training community.
- Grow your personal learning network.
How Do I Apply?
- Complete the online application form (link below).
- Attach a minimum of 2 writing samples. One sample must be an original proposed blog post written for the TESL Ontario blog. (Samples can be submitted as files or links to existing blog posts written by you.)
- TESL Ontario will review all applications with a view to choosing members from varying teaching sectors and specialties to complement our existing team.
- Successful applicants will be contacted directly to arrange telephone/video interviews within 4 weeks.

Occasional Blogger – No long-term commitment
In addition to regular weekly blog posts from our guest bloggers, the blog is open to all TESL Ontario members to submit a blog post about personal and professional achievements, success stories, motivational stories, and experiences that make working in the language training field rewarding.
What’s Involved?
Writers must
- be an active TESL Ontario member,
- submit a minimum of 1 blog post up to a maximum of 3 posts per year,
- work with blog administrators during the editing process to finalize the post for publication, and
- respond to comments on blog posts.
What Are the Writing Guidelines?
Blog posts will
- be between 350 – 700 words in length,
- follow the APA guidelines,
- be written in the first person,
- be written as a personal reflection / story / experience related to English language training,
- have names of students and colleagues changed for privacy reasons,
- be subject to approval and will be reviewed by blog administrators prior to posting, and
- be subject to minor editing to conform with the publication standards.
What’s in it for Me?
- Contributors whose posts are chosen for publication will be provided with a certificate for 2 hours of professional development that can be used for renewal of TESL Ontario accredited membership.

- Be able to share your knowledge and expertise with the language training community.
- Grow your personal learning network.
How Do I Submit a Post?
- Complete the online submission form (link below).
- Attach a Microsoft word doc version of your submission.
- All submissions are subject to approval by the blog administration team.
- Individuals whose posts are approved for publication will be notified by email within 4 weeks.

Note: Occasional Bloggers will be credited as “Guest Contributor” on their posts, however full author name, bio and applicable social media links will be included in the body of the post, as well as on social media promotions.
