Last week, we welcomed the first day of Spring – hello Spring! Maybe you’re like me when Spring arrives. My mind begins to think of that very North American task of Spring cleaning. However, my Spring cleaning list rarely has anything to do with cleaning up the house.
For me, Spring reminds me of new starts. When I think about it, we have many new starts in our year: January, a new calendar year start; September, a new academic year start; and March, a professional year renewal/restart. Around this time, our TESL Ontario membership renews and I begin to think about what new PD I can engage in for the next renewal year.
In January, I posted 5 Ways to Get Involved This Year, and now is the time to revisit that post along with new opportunities that TESL Ontario and Affiliates have created for us.
Private Sector Committee
Do you work within the post-secondary sector? Did you know that this sector is a rising sector within our membership? If you are interested in supporting professional development opportunities for your colleagues within TESL Ontario at large, this type of position may interest you.
Deadline: April 24, 2017

Affiliate Chapters Spring PD
Do you know the members of your affiliate group? Many affiliates hold PD events and meetings in the Spring, and it’s a great opportunity not only to get some PD hours in, but also to build relationships with local TESL Ontario members and share knowledge and experiences.
Did you know that you can attend nearby affiliate chapters as well? This is a great way to expand your network and build partnerships among affiliates!
A full list of affiliate PD dates can be found here.
YouTube Channel Manager and Volunteers
Do you watch videos to gain knowledge? Think about being part of the TESL Ontario YouTube team and support the development of multiple formats for our membership to access information.
Deadline: April 14, 2017

All of these PD opportunities are knocking at your door: Welcome them in.
Thank you for this. I suppose after all these years I need to admit that this is just my character, but I have a terrible habit of marking all sorts of fun events on my kitchen wall calendar and then doing almost none of them. That being said, one thing I really hope I eventually get off my bum and do is attend a spring workshop given by a nearby affiliate. I would love an excuse to travel to the beautiful Niagara region in spring. So thank you for this reminder!
I definitely know the feeling, Kelly! Niagara region must be gorgeous this time of year and it would definitely be fun to make a whole weekend of it. I didn’t know in my early years as a member that we could attend nearby affiliate offerings, and I think it’s such a great way of expanding the community and building relationships – not to mention gaining new insights and ideas too!
